Almonds, Cashews, Brazil Nuts, Macadamia, Sunflower... all familiar to one in the raw, as nuts and seeds are a...THE protein staple for the common raw foodie. However, even though i have heard and read countless times that these healthy omega fats are extremely good for us, in so many ways, I still have doubts that nuts will help me lose weight. I have strayed to eating mainly grains, but it just doesnt feel complete. Any suggestions...thoughts...comments... on how nuts will help one to actually LOSE weight, even with the lingering fear that they have so much fat content?... :)

Most nutritionists will say it's all about the calories, not fat content. However, everyone is different. You don't need to overdo the nuts and seeds and fats, but we do need healthy fats in our diet. I actually did lose weight eating a ton of raw fats like nuts, seeds, avocados and coconuts etc. Coconut especially helps to speed up your metabolism and is burned like a carb. An imbalanced ratio of omega fats will effect your bodies ability to burn body fat. Nuts also help you by keeping you more satiated then high carb / high sugar foods, so you ultimately eat less. Although I do think that nuts and seeds make a better snack then a base for a meal, like a lot of the nut heavy recipes.

I stick to almonds, walnuts, pumpkin, flax and hemp because they have the best nutrition for the least fat. I also count out my servings and don't go overboard, but everyday I have 15 almonds and 1 tbs ground flax at least. I soak my almonds over night and buy only raw organic almonds. I hope that helps a little :)
